Personal Data: Use Terms

If you are in the European Economic Area, and more generally in respect of our collection and processing of personal data in connection with the Website that is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (referred to herein as “GDPR”) or similar implementing legislation in the UK, our legal basis for collecting and using the personal data described in the Website Privacy Notice will depend on the personal data concerned and the specific context in which we collect it.

However, we will normally collect personal data from you only (i) where we need the personal information to perform a contract with you, (ii) where the processing is in our legitimate interests and not overridden by your rights, or (iii) where we have your consent to do so. In some cases, we may also have a legal obligation to collect personal information from you or may otherwise need the personal information to protect your vital interests or those of another person.

If we ask you to provide personal data to comply with a legal requirement or to perform a contract with you, we will make this clear at the relevant time and advise you whether the provision of your personal information is mandatory or not (as well as of the possible consequences if you do not provide your personal information).

If we collect and use your personal data in reliance on our legitimate interests (or those of any third party), this interest will normally be to operate our platform and communicating with you as necessary to provide our services to you and for our legitimate commercial interest, for instance, when responding to your queries, improving our platform, undertaking marketing, or for the purposes of detecting or preventing illegal activities.

We have set out below, in a table format, a description of the ways we plan to use your personal data, and which of the legal bases we rely on to do so. This is how we decide which information from F-star may be relevant for you (we call this marketing). You will receive marketing communications from us if you have requested information from us and you have not opted out of receiving that marketing.

Generally, we do not rely on consent as a legal basis for processing your personal data.

We will only use your personal data for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose.

In those limited cases in which we rely on your consent, where you have provided us with consent to process your personal data, including consent to send you electronic marketing, you have the right to withdraw this consent at any time. This will however not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. We provide simple methods for withdrawing your consent, including, where applicable, through unsubscribe mechanisms.

To the extent you have consented, you can always inform us that you wish to withdraw your consent in respect of a specific processing activity and related personal data by emailing us at
