F-star develops novel bispecific anti bodies using its Modular Antibody Technology, directed at improving the treatment of serious diseases, with a focus on immuno-oncology.

We have a new opportunity for a proactive and enthusiastic Research Associate to undertake a lab-based role within the Discovery group. You will be accountable for designing and executing experiments and the subsequent analysis, interpretation and reporting of the results.

Key responsibilities:

  • Construction and maintenance of phage or yeast display libraries
  • Selection and screening of  antibody phage or yeast libraries
  • Expression, purification and analysis of antibody fragments using mammalian cell
  • Ensure experiments are designed to deliver high quality data to inform decision making and carry out on-going analysis of data generated to identify issues and implement necessary optimisations
  • Analyse and critically interpret experimental data to draw conclusions
  • Communicate ideas and results to supervisor and teams, by presenting and interpreting for project meetings and discussions
  • Documents data generated in lab notebook and database with compliance to F-star guidelines
  • Contribute to the maintenance of reagents and general lab facilities

Skills and knowledge:

Essential:

  • Experience in antibody engineering, preferably in an industry environment.
  • Experience  in Molecular biology techniques (DNA manipulation,  cloning, sequence alignment and analysis)
  • Experience in Mammalian cell culture
  • Protein expression, purification and characterisation
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to work well in teams

Desirable:

  • Protein displayed on  phage or  yeast selection methods
  • ELISA based screening assays
  • Knowledge of library construction
  • Experience in flow cytometry and/or cell sorting

We have a new opportunity for a Research Associate to join our Assay Development team to support the design, development and execution of in vitro biological assays and establishment of Standard Operating Procedures and protocols.

Key responsibilities:

  • To undertake experiments involving the development of controlled methods for pre-clinical analytics, candidate characterisation and clinical release assays
  • Design and execute a diverse range of experiments for investigations of novel therapeutic antibodies and antibody fragments
  • Carry out on-going analysis of data generated to identify issues and implement necessary changes.
  • Communicate ideas, experimental strategy methods and results to supervisor and teams.
  • Operate and validate all items of equipment or IT needed for experimentation, data analysis, storage and data entry
  • Read scientific literature and keep up with the new trends and techniques related to role
  • Establish a broad technical skill set as well as understanding of rigorous approach to assay development and maintenance, ensuring robust methods are available to span drug discovery and development processes
  • Extend and maintain knowledge of best practice and regulatory guidelines with a view to transferring methods into a regulated environment to be used under GLP and GMP regulations

Skills and knowledge:

Essential

  • BSc or equivalent in a biological subject, with relevant focus on biochemistry or cell biology
  • Proficiency or significant hands-on experience in several of the following: cell biology; immuno assays, Flow Cytometry, in vitro immune cell activation assays; ADCC, CDC, ADCP; cell culture; analysis and purification of primary murine and human immune cells and immunological phenotyping
  • Experience in aseptic technique and best practice in pipetting and experimental design
  • Proven experience in working in a small team and setting up biological and immunological assays, design of experiments, interpretation of data, trouble shooting
  • Working experience in structured assay design, record keeping and understanding of assay robustness and levels of data quality
  • Keen to learn and optimise record keeping and data recording
  • Ability to learn and maintain rigid controls and analysis during multiple ongoing experiments.
  • Ability to work unsupervised when required

Desirable:

  • Knowledge in the development of antibody-based therapeutics and CMC
  • Previous industry experience in a regulated environment (GLP, GMP, ISO)
  • Knowledge in immunology and/or cancer biology
  • A fast learner, highly motivated and organised with strong attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm to learn and optimize new methods
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to work well in teams

We have a new opportunity for a Scientist to join our Assay Development team. You will be responsible for designing, developing and optimising in vitro biological assays and establishment of Standard Operating Procedures and protocols, and will be expected to be an ambassador for quality in analytical procedures.

Key responsibilities:

  • To lead experiments involving the development of controlled methods for pre-clinical analytics (e.g. PK assays), drug candidate characterisation and clinical release assays
  • To lead assay development projects involving cross-functional teams, independently design and execute project goals, plans and milestones in alignment with established programme strategy
  • To contribute a broad technical skill set as well as understanding of rigorous approach to assay development and maintenance, ensuring robust methods are available to span drug discovery and development processes
  • Ensure experiments and data management activities result in robust, quality data to inform decision making on projects
  • Carry out on-going analyses of data generated to identify issues and implement necessary changes.
  • Support best practice and keep up to date with regulatory guidelines with a view to transferring methods into a regulated environment to be used under GLP and GMP regulations
  • Identify critical project-related issues and successfully implement plans to overcome them to ensure the achievement of goals/milestones.
  • Operate and validate all items of equipment or IT needed for experimentation, data analysis, storage and data entry
  • Read scientific literature and keep up with the new trends and techniques related to role

Skills and knowledge:

Essential

  • PhD or equivalent in a biological subject with relevant focus on biochemistry or cell biology, or equivalent industry experience
  • Proficiency in most of the following: PK assays, cell biology; immuno assays, flow cytometry, in vitro immune cell activation assays; ADCC, CDC, ADCP; cell culture; analysis and purification of primary murine and human immune cells and immunological phenotyping
  • Proficient in tissue culture systems and immuno assays
  • A good track record of research outputs (publications, posters, patents or project milestones) and well informed about the latest technological and scientific advances in the field
  • Proven experience in working in a small team and designing and optimising biological and immunological assays for robustness and reliable data quality, design of experiments, interpretation of data and trouble shooting.
  • Extensive experience in structured assay design, record keeping and understanding of factors affecting assay robustness and levels of data quality
  • Solid understanding of statistics as it applies to bioassays
  • Excellent record keeping and data recording
  • Experience in maintaining quality during multiple ongoing experiments.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and experience in supporting and mentoring junior staff

Desirable:

  • Knowledge in the development of antibody-based therapeutics and CMC
  • Previous relevant industry experience in a regulated environment (GLP, GMP, ISO) a strong advantage
  • Knowledge in immunology and/or cancer biology will be an advantage
  • Organised with strong attention to detail
